Mark,
I know I've heard that a skilled operator can match the speed of an autoloader with a pump, but I would love to put that to a test...very hard to believe. Especially after a few rounds...I've shot pumps, autos, and over/unders for 30+ years, and have the most experience with pumps...and I could never come close to the speed of an auto...never mind the recoil.

I have seen several films of the current Remington exhibition shooter.... just can't recall his name at the moment.

Anywho, he can toss a stack of five clays into the air and bust them all with a Remington 1100 before they hit the ground.

When he does the same routine with a 870 he can bust seven.

Also consider Edward ('Ed') McGivern who could fire 6 shots from a S&W .38 in 3/5ths of a second. There is NO autoloading pistol that can match that speed.

There are some interesting programs on the History Channel on these guys.

I have the Remington 1100, which I bought after having a great experience using my friends Browning skeet shooting (price was the driver :( ). I probably should have bought the Remington with a shorter barrel and less choke similar to the Browning.

But if I had it over I would have bought the Browning instead as I had 10 times the fun using it.

Dennis,

My 1100 is just the synthetic field gun but I was able to purchase a skeet choke to screw into the barrel to replace the modified choke that was in it. I like those Brownings too but the wallet does not!

I bought a 20 ga. Rem. 870 youth express for my son at 12 years old and I love to shoot it a much as him. It is a 3" mag. pump. His came with screw in wind chokes. It is also a great little gun for home protection. I works great as a dove gun or for deer. You can use buckshot or slugs. The 3" mag. boat tail slugs are are fun to shoot and make a realy big hole. He is 22 now and still shoots it at all our dove shoots. We shoot skeet all the time and he keeps up with everyone with their 12 gauges.

Are the Franchi brand shotguns any good? Believe they are a private brand from Benelli.

In the early 80's my neighbor bought his son a Franchi 20 gauge, wanted something lighter that a 12 year old could handle, seemed to be a nice gun, so they have been around for quite a while.
