Cleaning up a Remington trigger
Is there an "easy way" to clean up the sear engagement on a 700 factory trigger?
I've done it on my BDL years ago by lapping the engagement areas but it took 2-3 evenings of polishing and tinkering to final fit.
This trigger on the 22-250 is JUNK out of the box. There are 2 distink movements. You can feel the movement then it hits a spot where it hangs a tad...increase the pressure on trigger and it will move a smidge and release.
Other than that little hang in the middle of the release its not bad. I've already adjusted the overtravel and pull. Actually reducing the pull to 32oz made the hang spot more noticeable. I guess the 9+ lb pull B4 tends to jerk thru thr hang spot.
This could almost function as a (hate this term) "staged" trigger with the 2 distink movements... squeeze to the hang point then setup for the shot.
Maybe I should just knuckle under and go buy a new aftermarket one. Need it for long range coyotes and chucks so it needs to be field safe.

I've never played with the trigger myself. Have always gone to a local gunshop that has a good gunsmith. I'm sure it isn't hard to do, but they must have some tricks to their trade.

Trigger work is partially done. I can not believe the shabby/crappy work that was did. The sear looked like it was rough ground on a bench grinder. The trigger half of the sear did not look to bad so I only polished the sear enough to take out the roughness. Its alot smoother now but needs serious lapping and polishing.
I currently own 8 Remingtons and lost several in the fire. This is the first one that I could not use out of the box. Others just needed a personal tweaking. This one really has me in a tiz. It is the worst trigger I have ever used and having spent a few years in the military I have used a few that I thought were bad. As soon as I get a couple 3 hundred rounds thru it the trigger will get a serious look.

Harvey, I agree with you on those remington triggers. Creep like hell and break all over the place. I'm in the process of doing a trigger on an older 22-250. I'm guessing the breaks between 4.2 pounds and damn near 7. Everything is loctited on. It is taking a lot of polishing to get it right. I found a site that gives pretty good instructions on working factory triggers. I may just go an put a custom trigger on it and be done with it. If you would like I can mail it to you.
