22 rimfire Ammo
Hey, I just found this site and couldn't wait to sign up. I have been wondering for a long time why 22 rimfire cartridges don't have better bullets. I think the 22 mag does and the .17 so why not the old standby 22 long rifel?

Yup, I was thinking about the lead bullet ricocheting off of a rock or frozen ground. If they would fragment they would be safer. It always bothers me when they go whizzing off sideways! Although, I do like the sound.

I wasn't aware the stinger rounds would fragment. I'll give them a try. I use my .22 rimfire for everything except, deer, coyote, fox and birds. So mostly small varments, skunks, goffers, plinking, etc. I agree the the .22 rimfire has taken more animals than all other catridges combined. Another reason I think the bullet selection could be better. The .17 rimfire and .22 rimfire mag have better selections, and now Hornady has rubber tipped bullets for tubular magazines in, .30-.30.,.35 Remington, .444 Marlin, .45-70 and .450 Marlin. Maybe the .22 rimfire is next. I read the .30-.30 has a ballistic coefficient of .337. Just thinking that the .22 could be zipped up to .25?

You got me thinking about CCI Stingers so I looked at their web site. They have a round called Quik-Shok 22 Long Rifle. They have the same numbers as the Stinger rounds. But, have a 32 grain segmented hollow point bullet that breaks into four large pieces on impact. Usage small to medium varments. They also have a faster round than the Stingers called Velocitor. It has a 40 grain gilded hollow point nose at 1435 ft/sec. 22 percent greater energy at 100 yards than regular high speed hollow points. Usage up to large varments like coyotes. I think I have found some new rounds to try. Thanks.
