22 rimfire Ammo
There is a fundamental difference between the 22 LR and the 22 Mag that affects the way the bullets are designed.
The LR is a "heel" based design. The bullet and the case are the same diameter and the case is crimped into a sub-caliber annular ring on the base of the bullet. This prevents the bullet from have a jacket per se and mandates that whatever lubrication is applied to the bullet is exposed to the elements.
The 22 mag has a bullet that is pressed into a larger diameter case in the normal fashion we see in larger calibers and can therefore carry a gilding metal jacketed bullet.
It is because of this difference that the two rounds are not interchangeable in the same chamber.
