Field Training Labrador with Shock Collars
Dennis:
I've never used one on any of my dogs. Some friends of mine say they work very well for training. You definitely get their attention in a very short time.
Last night I was watching the Orange County Chopper guys and they got in a collar from Cabela's. Paul jr. put one on Jason (the graphic artist) and zapped him a couple of times. Jason didn't like it at all and said it hurt. Guess I wouldn't use one unless the dog was unusually unruly, etc.

Field Training Labrador with Shock Collars
I actually have a shock collar that came with an Innotek Invisible fence system we got that works great. I used the collar for some training months ago when our Lab was about 1 year old, but I have not tried using it for field commands. My first lab was field trained using a whistle and some long ropes initially, and the results were actually pretty good. But that was like 20 years ago.
Using the shock collar to teach commands at long range is still a litle puzzling to me
