DAMN COYOTE
Seems we have a real coyote problem in my area. A couple of months ago the sounds from the back field were that of the neighbors old beagle being attacked. He generally runs the Fields all night chasing vermin but in this case they got him.
This morning the wife let our cat out. Shortly thereafter, I spotted two coyote in the back lot quite near to the mowed lawn area heading into the brush. Rained all day and no sign of our cat, I believe they got her.
Tomorrow will be stealth D day in the fields, as will many evenings until I dispatch those vermin.

Thanks for the advise Harvey. Since there are no dogs running around here at night I am going to try a suggestion someone passed to me.
Today the wife is making chicken parm. I am using one breast and making a special stuffing. Then hanging it in the air out of reach of all but one of those pests. Beyond that, I will bait the field adjacent to my barn window and bring a thermos of coffee. I think my 12 Gage semi-auto with 00 shot and skeet barrel should work well at that range.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have 00, slugs and assorted other goodies. That CD call sounds great, I will check it out next weekend at Dick's or Cabalas. Suppose that means I will have to purchase something to play them on too.

There is a season on them here, no limit however. I believe you have to do what is necessary to protect your property. Last year one confronted the wife in the back yard just after dark. I can still hear the scream.
What troubles me is that I have heard them at night in several areas around me but now they are showing up in the daylight and eating my pet in my back yard.
I have 15 turkeys in the property, have not seen them for a couple of weeks either.

DAMN COYOTE
Hi Harvey. Up until just now I have been unable to post in this forum but from what I have read I like it very much.
I have spent numerous hours at dusk waiting to spot one of those things, even purchased a call. I am not the only one out there, heard another call a couple of weeks ago.
I have not seen one in the general area lately. I have heard them, but not nearly as many or as often. Check frequently for tracks especially with the volume of turkey and deer in my area but not coming up with any. No recent deposits either.
This winter may be a bit better, I have problems seeing without the moon or some snow and we have had mostly cloudy days here.

Have not seen a track lately Harvey. Friend of mine at the bottom of the hill has them nearby, so he asked me to come down some night. I don't think he owns a gun, so I told him to get some road kill and start baiting them. They ate his cat I am sure, it disappeared without a trace. Not sure if he will follow through, hope he does.

I saw those scopes, they are still on sale. They all have a red filter and from what I have read that light will not spook them correct?
Last night is the first time they have been near the house since my last battle. I was at the computer, heard one right outside the back door and realized the cat was out.
I grabbed my 410 with the light on it but the light is so small all I could see were the eyes at 150' or so. I fired and missed as expected with the bead site. Cat ran onto the deck and sat looking at me like what is wrong with you man, I was just making friends.

I was wondering about the hardware associated with the light. Of course, if you were set up waiting, not a big deal.

I'm thinking I will be back in my barn again. This time with some bait and a new call.

We seem to have eliminated the problem here since the new neighbor moved in. They have three pit bulls and walk them on a leash around the entire block (2+ miles) a couple of times a day. They urinate along the way. They also run free on his property with an electric fence.
I have read they will relinquish territory to dogs, that may be what has happened. We shall see, almost too good to be true.

Thanks for the information Wingwiper. The dogs are no longer walked around the block, they are restricted to their own place now due to a recent incident whereby they killed my neighbors cat in my back yard.
I may need to take up the slack
