  Ruger G100 DA revolver

Hey folks,
I am a new user and a new seeker/buyer of a sidearm and looking for some advice. What do you guys know of, or think of a Ruger G100 DA 357 revolver? I love to flyfish and frequent the backwoods of Idaho. I am not too worried of bears, but more so of cougar and wolf. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  Ruger G100 DA revolver

I had a Ruger GP140 and I now wish I kept it. It was well built and a good gun for the money. I found a few things annoying about it:

1) the 4" gun weighs 40oz. I don't (can't) carry, but for people who do, that's a lot of steel to haul around.
2) disassembly can be a pain in the ass since the trigger assembly is really sitting tight in the frame. You can have a plunger in that assembly polished so it won't be a problem, but out of the box that's one common problem that I hear about. But it's not that big a deal, I learned to live with it.
3) I did have this gun seize up on my once - shooting some +P 38 Sp. LSWC reloads. That only happened once, with that particular load. After that I only shot copper jacketed bullets and never had that problem. For a serious re-loader though, you gun should be able to shoot lead without a problem.

This gun also has a few positives
1) 3-point lock-up should add to longevity
2) Tough
3) Cheap
4) with a right set of grips, it's a good looking hunk of metal Smile

I think in stainless it's a great hiking gun. Maybe you could look into the 3" model with a shorter grip, would be easier to carry around.
