Browning Sweet Sixteen
My father left me with his father's favorite shotgun, a Browning semiautomatic 16 guage shotgun. Only problem is that my father told me the gun was chambered for 2 9/16 inch shells and shells today are generally 2 3/4, correct? Is it safe to fire the gun with 2 3/4 inch shells? If not, have you ever heard of 2 9/16 shells? Can I still get them? I must admit that, as a kid, I fired the shotgun a few times with 2 3/4 inch shells. It jammed occasionally - but there was no damage. I just haven't shot this gun in many years and am not sure I should continue to shoot it this way.

Browning Sweet Sixteen
I am sort of flying by the seat of my pants here as old shotguns are not my area of study, other than the Armorers school I attended at the Remington factory.
I am not familiar with the differences between old and new 16 gauge shot shell sizes, but I do absolutely know that the chamber/forcing cone can be reamed/lengthened to make it safe to shoot longer shells.
Now the remaining question concerns the length of the action and whether or not it will reliably eject the longer spent shell casing.
I would start with a call to Hans Vang. If Hans can't help you he would surely know someone who can.

Good find, Billy. I wonder if anyone makes a standard... non-spreader.... load?
