 Conceal and Carry

I have a couple questions about conceal and carry permit in Oregon and California. One, if you have a permit in the state of Oregon, does that mean that you can only carry a concealed weapon and not one exposed in a holster whiile, say, fishing? Also, I know California doesn't allow for conceal and carry, but does that mean that I cannot take my revolver when I travel to or through the state? Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a link for Oregon. opencarry.org can probably answer your questions for CA, too.

 Conceal and Carry

California does allow for Concealed Carry Permits, however they are not available to the general public. California is a "Rights Restricted state". People who are eligible to carry concealed in CA are law enforcement and government employees. There my be a few very small exceptions to this, but in general you need to be a police officer to carry a gun (at least concealed).

To answer the driving through the state with your revolver question: in California it is illegal to have ANY "loaded" gun (rifle, pistol, revolver, muzzle loader etc) in a vehicle, on top of that the ammunition and the gun need to be in SEPARATE, LOCKED containers and the glove compartment does not count. On top of THAT the magazine of any firearm is (by California's retarded laws) considered to be part of the gun, so that means that you can not have ammo in a magazine locked in a box with your gun locked in the trunk... that is still illegal. Empty magazines and guns need to be locked separately from the ammo.

"A firearm is deemed loaded when there is a live cartridge or shell in, or attached in any manner to, the firearm, including, but not limited to, the firing chamber, magazine, or clip thereof attached to the firearm."

Oddly enough California is gracious to you when you are on your own property, your place of business and surprisingly enough a campsite. (Penal Code §§ 12026, 12031(h) and (l).)
You may carry a loaded gun on the premises of any of these places (assuming that those places are not within another banned area of some sort (like if your place of business was in a public building like the library)). Oddly enough it also allows you to carry a loaded firearm while legally hunting or fishing (with a hunting or fishing license).

"Pursuant to Penal Code section 12025, a person is guilty of carrying a concealed firearm
when he or she does any of the following:
• Carries concealed within any vehicle which is under his or her control, any pistol,
revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person.
• Carries concealed upon his or her person any pistol, revolver, or other firearm
capable of being concealed upon the person.
• Causes to be carried concealed within any vehicle in which he or she is an occupant
any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person."

Notice that it says "capable of being concealed" that means it does not have to BE concealed for it to be illegal.

So to sum up, California is very very very intolerant of firearms in general, especially those being carried by a human. Another good reason not to live in California.

Sorry for the rant, I hope that helped!
-Logan
